Study Abroad – How to Apply?

While the internet is flooded with information and hacks to make your journey towards packing your life in a suitcase and flying to a foreign land as smooth as possible, we at Golden Draft have broken down the entire process into baby steps to make the process feel less scary and more fun.

  1. When it comes to studying abroad, timing is everything. It is necessary to be in the best books of the Gods of time and build a timeline that looks more like a consistent run in a marathon and less like bouts of 100 meter sprints.
  2. The more the merrier is a quote that stands absolutely untrue when it comes to your university choices. It is important for you to narrow down your list of programmes to the ones that suit your career choices the best, and in turn work wholeheartedly towards applying to just those selected ones.
  3. Once you’ve settled down on the colleges of interest, spend adequate amount of time checking their requirements. Each university comes with a fixed set of documents, applications, essays and activities you need to present in order to be considered as an eligible candidate for their courses.
  4. One of the biggest challenges that students face while working on their applications is getting their SOPs and essays done in time. It is unwise to leave them for the very end since they hold the potential to make or break your entire application. Hence, it is necessary to begin writing your essays and personal statements at the earliest with enough breathing period to allow scope for revisions and modifications.
  5. There are country specific examinations that you need to qualify for, in order to fulfil the basic criteria for admission in the related university. These exams include tests like SAT, TOEFL, GRE, GMAT to name a few.
  6. Buying a sturdy folder and providing your scattered documents a safe home is an indispensable step in ensuring a hassle-free admission process. These documents include your academic scores, certificates of achievements, letter of recommendations and basically everything needed by your host university to consider you for their programme.
  7. There are scholarships that the university or the country provides to students from abroad, and these scholarships often require you to write and provide separate motivation letters along with the rest of your documents. Since finding the right scholarship and getting through with it can help you cut down paralysing tuition fees, it is a step that should be given the importance and time it deserves.
  8. Different countries take different periods of time to process your Visa application. Hence studying the entire procedure and applying for it in time is important, as a lot of students end up wasting an entire year of college, solely because of delayed Visa arrivals.

Lastly, learning about the culture and traditions of the host country goes a long way in helping you build valuable friendships and make this uncomfortable yet exciting switch, easier and less intimidating.
